Bendigo Region lists Sacred Heart Cathedral on MacKenzie Street, Bendigo. The visitor page describes it as one of Australia's largest churches and the second tallest after St Patrick's Cathedral in Melbourne, with its construction enabled by Henry Backhaus, the first Catholic priest on the Bendigo goldfields. It is now the principal church of the Diocese of Sandhurst and serves visitors as well as the Cathedral Parish, making it a clear central heritage and architecture stop close to View Street and Pall Mall planning.
