Details
The current City reserve page lists Balyang Sanctuary at 1-11 Marnock Road, Newtown and describes a nine-hectare lake and native-bushland sanctuary beside Princes Bridge. The page explains that the former swamp was reshaped in the 1970s with landscaping, tree planting and three islands, two linked by bridges and one for nesting birds. It lists bird species visitors may see, plus picnic areas, seating, public toilets, free parking, a rotunda, environmental values, dogs-on-leash rules and easy access to the Barwon River walking and cycling path. Nearby references include Balyang Par 3 Golf Course, The Hill Mountain Bike Park and Leech Wood Gardens.
